Khyber Pakhtunkhwa addresses hiring corruption and flour subsidies
Authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are addressing administrative irregularities and food security measures. An inquiry into the Mardan District Health Office revealed significant corruption regarding staff recruitment. Investigations found that 173 individuals were appointed to 66 approved positions, including 31 men illegally assigned to roles specifically reserved for female Lady Health Workers. The inquiry also noted the misuse of quotas for children of deceased or retired employees and the hiring of candidates over the age of 40. Following these findings, District Health Officer Dr. Kachkol Khan was dismissed from his position.
Simultaneously, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has released wheat from state warehouses to stabilize flour prices. Through 2,000 active sale points, the department distributed over 639,000 bags of flour at a subsidized rate of 2,520 PKR for 20kg. Recent data shows significant distribution across several divisions, including Peshawar, Mardan, and Malakand. To ensure market stability, officials have taken action against nine flour mills, with four being sealed for violating standard operating procedures.
