Khyber Pakhtunkhwa approves electric bike scheme for women
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi, has approved an electric bike scheme specifically for women. The initiative targets female college and university students, as well as employed women, to provide more affordable and easier transportation for educational and professional purposes.
Chief Minister Afridi stated that the first phase of the program will launch soon and that distribution will be conducted strictly on a merit-based system. The scheme is part of a broader provincial strategy to promote electric vehicles and reduce reliance on conventional fuel-powered transport.
Following the rollout of the electric bikes, the government plans to introduce an electric rickshaw scheme to further promote cleaner transportation. Additionally, authorities have been directed to accelerate the development of an electric bus scheme intended for divisional headquarters across the province.
