Khyber Pakhtunkhwa CM Sohail Afridi addresses security and political stability
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has stated that establishing peace in the province is impossible without involving the public. Speaking at a press conference following an explosion in the Darazinda area of Dera Ismail Khan, Afridi condemned the attack and emphasized that those taking up arms against Pakistan are terrorists. He noted that both security forces and civilians are losing lives in this conflict.
To combat terrorism, the provincial government has allocated 35 billion rupees to the police. Afridi also criticized the federal government for failing to provide armored vehicles to the province despite payments, requesting that the federation release its own vehicles to assist. He expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation in both Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
In a separate political development, a meeting between Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and former Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in Dera Ismail Khan reportedly covered the province's political future. Discussions included potential tensions with the federal government, the possibility of implementing an emergency, and the option of dissolving the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly with parliamentary party approval. The meeting also reportedly touched upon internal PTI matters and the dissatisfaction of Imran Khan regarding certain party leadership decisions.
