Khyber Pakhtunkhwa moves to regulate illegal housing schemes
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved measures to regulate illegal and unregistered housing schemes across the province. During a meeting of the Land Use and Building Control Authority (LUBCA) council, Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi approved amendments to the KP Housing Schemes Regulations 2024.
To bring unregistered projects into a legal framework, officials have been directed to establish a deadline for registration applications. Schemes that fail to apply within the prescribed period or meet required conditions will face legal action.
Additionally, the government is moving toward a centralized building plan approval system under LUBCA for all development authorities, excluding the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA). A final proposal regarding the integration of development authorities or the establishment of this centralized mechanism is due within two weeks. The initiative aims to increase transparency and improve the operational performance of development authorities.
The council also reviewed proposals to create 21 new posts to increase LUBCA’s capacity and discussed new fee structures for enlistment, renewal, and a uniform debris fee.
