Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police station attack kills 14 security personnel

On July 15‑16, 2026, two coordinated terrorist attacks struck Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. In Lower Dir district, militants ambushed a police convoy with grenades and automatic fire, killing three police officers and wounding 19 others. In Bannu district, a vehicle packed with explosives was driven toward the Miryan police station; security forces intercepted it, preventing it from reaching the building. The ensuing explosion and gun battle left at least 14 security personnel dead and dozens injured, bringing the total number of casualties from both incidents to 34 wounded. Pakistani security forces responded with a heavy search operation, killing four attackers and detaining others while reinforcing the area with additional troops and police.

The attacks underscore a surge in militant activity in the province, which has seen similar incidents earlier in the year, and have prompted authorities to air‑lift the seriously injured to hospitals in Peshawar and launch a broader crackdown on insurgent groups.
