Kia announces electrified mobility expansion strategy for Latin America
Kia has announced an ambitious regional strategy to expand its electrified mobility presence across Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. During the Kia EV Day CSA 2026, the company revealed plans to increase its electrified vehicle sales share from 10% to 30% of total regional sales by 2030.
To achieve this, Kia intends to expand its regional portfolio to include up to 10 electric models and 10 hybrid models. The company is also advancing its ‘Platform Beyond Vehicle’ (PBV) strategy, which includes the Kia PV5—available in passenger, cargo, and WAV versions—and the upcoming Kia PV7, expected in the fourth quarter of 2027.
In specific markets like Peru, the focus remains on hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), with models such as the Sportage, Sorento, and Carnival currently available. In Costa Rica, the expansion aligns with national decarbonization goals supported by Law 9518, though experts note the importance of monitoring battery disposal regulations and consumer warranty protections as the market matures.
