Kia begins testing fifth-generation Carnival hybrid

Kia has commenced testing for the fifth-generation Carnival, internally designated as the KA5, in South Korea. This new generation is expected to replace the fourth-generation model that debuted in August 2020.

Leaked images of the prototype show the vehicle utilizing current bodywork and lighting to test new underlying platforms and hardware. The upcoming model is expected to feature significant interior upgrades, potentially including a 17-inch central touchscreen running the Pleos Connect operating system and a redesigned instrument cluster.

Mechanically, the new Carnival is slated to utilize the 1.6 Turbo Hybrid TMED-II powertrain, similar to the one found in the Hyundai Tucson. This system is expected to deliver approximately 245 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque. Reports indicate that the Carnival Hybrid is planned for production at the Gwangmyeong plant, with a target release around 2028.
