Kia EV3 enters North American market as affordable electric SUV
The Kia EV3 has launched in the North American market, positioning itself as a competitive option in the affordable electric vehicle segment. With US pricing starting at approximately $29,890 before destination fees, the vehicle aims to compete directly with models like the Chevrolet Bolt and Nissan Leaf.
Testing of the 2027 model reveals a range of configurations. The base Light FWD trim features a 58.3 kWh battery providing an estimated 221 miles of range. A higher-tier Wind trim, priced around $34,990 to $36,485, includes a larger 81.4 kWh battery capable of up to 321 miles of range. The EV3 also offers all-wheel drive options, a feature not available in its primary competitors.
While the vehicle has received praise for its chassis and driving dynamics, reviewers noted technical compromises typical of its price point. Specifically, the 400-volt architecture may result in slower charging curves compared to more expensive models, and higher-end trims like the GT-Line may offer diminishing returns in value relative to their increased cost.
