Kia invests $649 million to launch EV3 electric SUV production in Mexico

Kia Motors announced a $649 million investment in Mexico to build a dedicated production line for its EV3 electric SUV at the Pesquería plant in Nuevo León. The new line is scheduled to start operations on 4 August 2026 and will initially create 500 direct jobs, rising to about 1,500 by 2030. The project includes a national charging‑network, a solar power park and a water‑treatment facility, underscoring Mexico’s push toward electromobility.

President Claudia Sheinbaum highlighted the investment as a sign of confidence in the country’s manufacturing sector, while Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard noted Kia’s view of Mexico’s productivity advantages. Kia Mexico’s president Young Sam Kim confirmed the alignment with the national “Plan México” and the company’s commitment to renewable energy and responsible water management.

The EV3, a midsize SUV, offers up to 605 km of range, 204 hp and a 460‑liter trunk. In Spain, the model is priced at about €23,360 after incentives and is positioned as a family‑friendly electric vehicle, with expectations that the Mexican plant will supply both domestic demand and exports to Latin American markets.
