Kia expands recall of 463,000 Telluride SUVs over fire risk

Kia America announced a safety recall covering 462,869 Telluride SUVs from the 2020‑2024 model years in the United States. The recall addresses a potential fire hazard linked to the front power‑seat motor, which can overheat if the seat‑slide knob or switch becomes misaligned.

Regulators reported seven seat‑fire incidents and 11 melted seat motors. Kia says a previous 2024 recall may not have fully resolved the issue, prompting a new fix that adds an electronic fuse assembly to cut power when abnormal motor activity is detected. Owners have been instructed to park their vehicles outdoors, away from buildings and other cars, until dealers perform the repair at no cost. Notification letters are expected to begin on August 13, and VIN verification details are posted on the NHTSA website.

The recall does not involve any reported injuries or crashes, but the advisory aims to prevent possible fires while the corrective work is carried out.
