Kia posts record Q2 sales and revenue as operating profit falls
Kia reported its strongest second‑quarter ever, delivering 851,639 vehicles worldwide and generating 33.37 trillion won in revenue, up 12.6% from a year earlier. Sales rose 4.5% YoY, lifting its global market share to 4% from 3.7% and marking the highest quarterly sales volume in the company’s history.
The rise was driven by rapid growth in electrified models: electric‑vehicle deliveries jumped 88.4% to 110,000 units and hybrid sales increased 61% to 178,000 units, accounting for 35.3% of total sales. However, operating profit slipped 4.9% to 2.63 trillion won, and the operating margin fell to 8% after Kia offered aggressive price incentives and sales‑promotion subsidies in Korea and Western Europe and faced higher warranty‑cost provisions linked to a weaker won.
Kia said the strong performance positions it to meet its full‑year targets, with plans to expand production capacity for the Tualatin hybrid model in the United States and to increase EV output in Europe through models such as EV2, EV4 and the new PBV PV5.
