Kia Sorento enters India's premium SUV market

The Kia Sorento has launched in India, positioning itself as a premium family SUV alternative to established models like the Toyota Fortuner. Starting at ₹27.99 lakh, the Sorento offers a choice between a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine and a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong hybrid powertrain.

The diesel variant produces approximately 193 PS and 442 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The strong hybrid option combines a 180 bhp petrol engine with a 64 bhp electric motor, utilizing a 1.49 kWh battery charged via the engine and regenerative braking.

While the Sorento focuses on modern technology, premium interiors, and a monocoque chassis for smoother highway driving, competitors like the Toyota Fortuner rely on a body-on-frame construction and larger 2.8-litre diesel engines for rugged off-road capability.
