Kia to launch Sorento SUV in India with AWD and Gen AI

Kia India has confirmed the launch of the Sorento, a three-row SUV, on September 4, 2026. The vehicle will serve as the company’s flagship internal-combustion-engined SUV in the Indian market, positioned to compete with models such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, and Jeep Meridian.

Key technological features for the India-spec model include an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) configuration and a ‘Live Gen AI’ in-car voice assistant. The generative AI system is designed to provide a conversational interface capable of understanding natural-language queries, controlling vehicle functions, and providing connected information.

The Sorento will be offered in both 6 and 7-seat configurations. Expected powertrain options include a 1.6L turbocharged petrol strong hybrid producing 238bhp and 380Nm of torque, as well as a 2.2L diesel engine. Other anticipated features include Level 2 ADAS, a dual 12.3-inch display setup, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
