Kia to replace Niro EV with new EV3 SUV in the US

Kia announced it will discontinue the Niro EV from its 2027 US lineup, offering only a hybrid version of the model. In its place, the company plans to launch the EV3, an entry‑level electric SUV expected to go on sale later this year. The EV3 will be priced under $35,000 and will be available in five trims, with two battery options: a 58.3 kWh pack delivering up to 220 mi of range, and an 81.4 kWh pack offering up to 320 mi. All‑wheel‑drive is standard on the GT‑Line and GT trims, while the GT delivers up to 288 hp. The vehicle features Kia’s new ccNC infotainment system, a native NACS charging port, and optional premium amenities such as a 12‑inch head‑up display.

The EV3 follows strong sales performance, having been Kia’s top‑selling EV in South Korea in the first half of 2026 with nearly 18,500 units. Kia also reported that its three‑row EV9 SUV saw a 42 % sales increase through June 2026, with over 7,000 units sold. The move aims to keep Kia competitive in the affordable electric‑vehicle segment, positioning the EV3 against rivals such as the Toyota bZ, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Chevrolet Bolt EV.
