Kia unveils hybrid Sportage in Philippines while next‑gen model is tested in Europe

Kia Corp is progressing with a new generation of its Sportage compact SUV. A prototype wrapped in camouflage was photographed on European test routes, showing a squarer silhouette, wider front grille, split headlights and larger lower air intake, signaling a shift toward a more robust, off‑road‑inspired appearance. Inside, the concept features Kia’s new Pleos Connect infotainment platform with screens up to 17 inches.

In the Philippines, Kia launched a hybrid‑only Sportage lineup powered by a 1.6‑liter turbocharged engine paired with a 1.49 kWh lithium‑ion battery, delivering 235 PS and 367 Nm of torque. The EX and SX trims include a five‑year/160,000‑km vehicle warranty and an eight‑year/160,000‑km hybrid‑battery warranty. Standard equipment features a 12.3‑inch LCD infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and safety systems such as cruise control, six airbags and tire‑pressure monitoring. The SX adds DriveWise driver‑assist technologies. Prices start at ₱1.898 million for the EX and ₱2.098 million for the SX, with a two‑tone interior option at ₱2.128 million.
