Kiama Council byelection results too close to call

The Kiama Council byelection remains too close to call, with less than 200 votes separating the two leading independent candidates. As of the official count from the NSW Electoral Commission on August 25, Uncle Stan Jarrett holds a lead of 197 votes over Michael Bowden, with Jarrett receiving 6,813 votes to Bowden’s 6,616.

The byelection was held to fill a vacancy following the resignation of councillor Mike Cains in June. A final winner will not be officially declared until September 8, following the processing of postal votes which are due by September 4. The successful candidate is expected to be sworn in at the next ordinary council meeting on September 15.
