KIB-TEK Chairman addresses scrap metal auction allegations
Gürsel Uzun, Chairman of the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (KIB-TEK), addressed recent allegations regarding the auctioning of scrap materials. Uzun stated that a final decision has not been made and announced that legal proceedings will be initiated regarding the claims made in the press.
Uzun explained that the process of evaluating scrap materials to generate revenue for the institution has been underway for approximately one year. He noted that the auction process has been ongoing for about two and a half months, following technical assessments of the materials. He defended the initiative, questioning why the materials were left idle for years without being converted into revenue.
Regarding the auction procedures, Uzun confirmed that announcements were made through various media channels. In the first auction held on July 16, which was supervised by a KIB-TEK commission and personnel from the State Real Estate Materials Department, Omeryan Construction Ltd. submitted the highest bids for all items.
Additionally, Uzun addressed a recent workplace accident involving an employee, stating that a technical report is being prepared and that the institution will support the injured worker throughout their treatment and recovery.
