KiDi reflects on overcoming industry doubts to win Artiste of the Year

Ghanaian singer Dennis Nana Dwamena, known professionally as KiDi, has reflected on his journey to winning the Artiste of the Year award at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA). The musician revealed that early in his career, an unnamed industry figure told him his musical style was not suited for the top prize, suggesting he would be packaged differently while others were better candidates for the category.

KiDi described the remarks as painful at the time but noted that they motivated him to work harder. He shared that the experience made his eventual victory feel surreal and deeply emotional. He admitted that the excitement of the moment was so overwhelming that he “blanked out” and has little memory of his acceptance speech.
