Kidney function and the impact of daily multivitamin use

Experts are explaining how the kidneys manage multivitamins and when supplement use requires extra caution. For most healthy adults, taking a daily multivitamin does not strain kidney function, as the kidneys act as a natural filtration system that reabsorbs necessary nutrients and excretes the excess.

The process varies depending on the type of vitamin. Water-soluble vitamins, such as Vitamin C and the B-complex group (including B6 and B12), circulate in the blood and are excreted through urine when levels exceed the body's needs. This excretion often results in more intense yellow urine, frequently due to Vitamin B2. In contrast, fat-soluble vitamins like Vitamin A are processed differently by the body.
