Kiel endorsed by major sailing associations for Olympic bid

Sailing associations from Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia have officially endorsed Kiel as the preferred sailing venue for a potential German Olympic bid. As the two largest regional associations under the German Sailing Association (DSV), their support favors Kiel over Rostock-Warnemünde.

This endorsement comes ahead of the September 26 decision by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) to select a national candidate for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. While Berlin had previously supported Rostock-Warnemünde due to geographic proximity, the Bavarian and North Rhine-Westphalian associations argue that Kiel offers superior infrastructure, high-quality waters, and established high-performance sports structures.

Kiel, which hosted Olympic sailing events in 1936 and 1972, is also home to Germany's only federal training center for sailing. The associations believe that selecting Kiel could provide additional momentum and strength to Germany's overall Olympic candidacy.
