Kiel gains support from six sailing associations for Olympic bid
Six German sailing associations have announced their support for Kiel as the host venue for Olympic sailing competitions. The supporting associations represent Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Bremen, Bavaria, and North Rhine-Westphalia.
Magdalena Finke, the Sports Minister of Schleswig-Holstein, stated that these associations represent approximately 75 percent of German sailors. Proponents of the bid highlight Kiel's existing Olympic-tested infrastructure, its experienced international regatta history, and its challenging sailing waters.
Bernd Hassenjürgen, President of the Bavarian Sailing Association, noted that Kiel and Munich demonstrated successful Olympic infrastructure use together in 1972. Similarly, the North Rhine-Westphalia Sailing Association expressed that if the German Olympic bid is awarded to the Rhine-Ruhr region, the sailing events should be held in Kiel rather than elsewhere. Kiel is currently positioned against Rostock-Warnemünde for the sailing venue designation.
