Kien Khuong village preserves century-old hammock weaving tradition

In Kien Khuong village, located in Mo Cay commune, Quang Ngai province, residents have maintained the traditional craft of manual hammock weaving for approximately 80 to 100 years.

While the craft originally utilized natural materials such as fragrant tree fibers and dried coconut husks, modern practitioners have transitioned to using nylon threads for greater convenience. The production process involves several meticulous stages, including spinning and winding thread, weaving, knotting the ends, and finishing the edges.

Local artisans continue to perform these tasks by hand to ensure durability and aesthetic quality. The craft serves as a supplemental source of income for villagers during agricultural off-seasons or periods of inclement weather.
