Kier appointed to design Heaton Park Metrolink improvements

Kier has been appointed by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) to lead the design improvements for the Heaton Park Metrolink stop in Prestwich. The project is part of the Metrolink Stop Improvements Programme, which aims to enhance accessibility and the overall passenger experience across the urban transport network.

Planned upgrades include the installation of new ramps and larger lifts to provide better step-free access, alongside the reconstruction of platform entrances. The project also involves installing new waiting shelters, modernizing the entrance area, replacing platform furniture, and updating all signage and wayfinding systems. Additional works will include a new pedestrian track crossing and drainage improvements.

Located on the Bury line, the Heaton Park stop serves a major leisure destination consisting of over 600 acres of parkland. Ian Davies, TfGM’s Metrolink network director, stated that the upgrades will create a more modern and welcoming facility, specifically prioritizing easier movement for passengers with mobility issues, pushchairs, or heavy luggage.
