Kyiv missile barrage kills nine, leaves dozens injured FAST-MOVING
On the night of 1 August 2026 Russia launched a massive aerial assault on Ukraine, firing 35 missiles—including 27 ballistic missiles—and 185 attack drones. The main target was Kyiv, but the strikes also hit the Dnipro, Sumy, Kharkiv and Poltava regions. At least nine civilians were killed and 28 people were injured, four of them children. Explosions were reported in five Kyiv districts – Solomianskyi, Darnytskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Dniprovskyi and Pecherskyi – causing fires, damage to residential buildings, a school, the Lithuanian embassy and other infrastructure. Only one ballistic missile was intercepted because Ukraine has run out of Patriot‑system interceptors. Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged residents to stay in shelters, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on partners to supply additional air‑defence munitions. Ukrainian emergency services worked to extinguish fires and rescue trapped civilians across the city.
