Kigen Calls for IoT Security as EU Cyber Resilience Act Takes Effect

At the Mobile World Congress IoT Summit 2026 in Shanghai, Jean‑Louis Carrara, senior vice‑president of global sales at Kigen, warned that the European Union’s Cyber Resilience Act will reshape the IoT market. The regulation, which applies to more than 90 % of connected devices, requires manufacturers to provide security updates for five years, report incidents within 72 hours and embed security by design. Non‑compliance can trigger fines of up to €15 million or 2.5 % of global annual turnover, while average compliance costs are estimated at €100 000 per product line.

Carrara highlighted Kigen’s eSIM platform, which can deliver autonomous over‑the‑air patches to hundreds of millions of devices worldwide. The company demonstrated a rapid 72‑hour response to a recent eSIM vulnerability, collaborating with the GSMA and ENISA to release an open‑source fix. Kigen argues that early adoption of the Act will become a market access advantage for IoT manufacturers seeking entry into the EU’s demanding market.
