KiK to close 150 stores in Germany during retail restructuring

Textile discounter KiK is undergoing a significant restructuring of its retail network, planning to close approximately 150 stores in Germany. This expansion of the downsizing plan is considerably larger than the 50 closures initially estimated for 2026. In contrast to these closures, the company plans only 15 new openings in Germany, with a total of 300 planned closures across Europe.

Managing Director Christian Kümmel stated that the company is reacting to overexpansion in certain regions, where nearby markets were competing with one another. The strategy aims to focus exclusively on profitable locations. Despite the closures, KiK will continue to operate more than 2,200 locations in Germany.

While a complete list of affected sites has not been officially released, several locations have been identified through regional media and company confirmations, including sites in Potsdam-Babelsberg, Hildburghausen, Gröditz, Munich-Aubing, Wutöschingen, Wassenberg, Mengen, Pfullendorf, Dassel, and Forst. Additionally, some stores may face reduced operating hours to manage costs due to lower sales during specific times of the day.
