KiKA documentary series explores climate change impact on children

The German children's channel KiKA is releasing a documentary series titled ‘Story Time’ that examines the personal impact of the climate crisis through the eyes of children in four different regions: Nepal, Tuvalu, Albania, and Mali.

In Nepal, the series follows 13-year-old Chandika, whose village was devastated by a flash flood caused by melting glaciers. The documentation highlights her struggle to continue her education after being forced to move to a boarding school. This follows a catastrophic event in northern Nepal where a glacier collapse triggered a massive flood, resulting in over 1,450 confirmed deaths and leaving approximately 32,000 children affected, according to UNICEF.

Other stories include 14-year-old Telagi in Tuvalu, who faces the loss of her home due to rising sea levels and the prospect of migrating to Australia, and 14-year-old Arbjos in Albania, who lost his home to severe wildfires. The series aims to move beyond abstract statistics to show how environmental changes fundamentally alter the daily lives, education, and communities of young people.
