Kiko Gómez transferred to Ibagué prison amid judicial threats

Juan Francisco ‘Kiko’ Gómez, the former governor of La Guajira, has been transferred to La Picaleña prison in Ibagué. The transfer was ordered by President Abelardo De la Espriella following the discovery of a mobile phone in Gómez’s previous cell and allegations that he issued threats against prosecutors and magistrates involved in his legal cases.

Gómez, who is currently serving a 55-year sentence for homicide, has denied any involvement in a recent attack on the 26th floor of the Procuraduría General de la Nación. He argued that such actions would serve no purpose given his existing lengthy sentence and age.

Legal representatives for Gómez have called for a swift investigation into the attack on the Procuraduría facilities, asserting that the discovery of a mobile device does not automatically prove his involvement. They have urged authorities to avoid using the former governor as a ‘scapegoat’ and to find the true perpetrators.
