Kilauea Volcano eruption episode 50 spews 1,000‑ft lava fountain in Hawaii

Episode 50 of the ongoing Kilauea summit eruption began at about 10:10 a.m. on Saturday, with lava fountains from the north vent reaching roughly 1,000 feet (300 m) high. The eruption generated an ash plume that rose to approximately 18,000 feet above sea level, and the peak effusion rate was about 430 cubic yards per second.

The National Weather Service warned that prevailing trade winds could carry ash toward the southwest, affecting the Kaʻū District and communities such as Pāhala and Naʻalehu. The volcano alert level remained at “watch” and the aviation color code at orange. Park officials did not anticipate immediate closures, but cautioned that changing wind direction or volcanic fallout could alter that stance, urging residents and visitors to stay informed and follow guidance from local authorities.
