Kilauea volcano erupts in Hawaii, illuminating the night sky
The Kilauea volcano in Hawaii has entered a new phase of activity, with lava flows illuminating the night sky around the Halemaʻumaʻu crater. This activity is part of an ongoing eruptive period that has been occurring since December 2024.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Hawaii Volcano Observatory, small lava overflows were recorded from the northern vent on September 27, with smaller overflows also observed from the southern vent. The eruption is characterized by intermittent activity, where intense periods of lava ejection are followed by pauses.
The USGS currently maintains the volcano's alert level at WATCH, while the aviation color code remains ORANGE. Scientists continue to monitor the summit closely as the volcanic system remains active under increased pressure.
