Kilcoy house fire kills 45-year-old man

A 45-year-old man, identified as Thamsingh Rampersaud, died in a house fire at the Kilcoy Squatting Area in Berbice. The blaze broke out on Sunday evening, around 18:30 to 19:00 hours, leaving the building completely engulfed in flames.

Rampersaud’s nine-year-old son managed to escape the fire by jumping through a window. The child reportedly told relatives that an electrical fan sparked the fire, which then spread to a bed while his father was asleep.

Family members, including Rampersaud’s brother Cheenarine Ramnarine, made desperate attempts to reach him, but the intensity of the heat and the presence of security grills prevented entry. The Guyana Fire Service has launched an investigation to officially establish the cause of the blaze.
