Archaeological Museum of Kilkis to undergo major expansion and upgrade

The Greek Ministry of Culture is implementing a comprehensive plan to upgrade and expand the Archaeological Museum of Kilkis. The project includes modernizing the existing building and constructing a new 860-square-meter facility on an adjacent plot of land provided by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.

The total budget for the project exceeds 3.5 million euros, excluding the cost of the new building construction. Funding is provided through the Ministry of Culture’s National Development Program and the Central Macedonia Regional Operational Program (ESPA 2021–2027).

A key component of the renovation is the protection and re-exhibition of significant artifacts, most notably the Kouros of Europa. Special structural and anti-seismic studies are being conducted to ensure the safe display and long-term preservation of this emblematic piece. The initiative aims to create a modern cultural hub that reflects the historical and archaeological wealth of the region.
