Kilkis begins celebrations for 190th anniversary of Saint George Monastery

Commemorations have begun in Kilkis to mark the 190th anniversary of the founding of the Holy Monastery of Saint George. The celebrations opened on Wednesday, September 23, with an environmental cleanup of the Hill of Kilkis, a site closely linked to the monastery and the city's history.

The initiative was a collaborative effort involving the Municipality of Kilkis, the Secondary Education department, and the Kilkis Forestry Service. Participants included local students, priests from the Holy Metropolis, and municipal sanitation workers. The cleanup aimed to protect one of the city's primary green and recreational spaces.

The event was attended by Metropolitan Bartholomew of Polyani and Kilkis, Mayor Dimitris Kyriakidis, and other local officials. This cleanup serves as the start of a broader program of events dedicated to the history and presence of Saint George on the Hill of Kilkis.
