Kim Byung-nae elected head of Korea's local government association

Kim Byung-nae, the head of Nam-gu District, has been elected as the representative chairperson of the Association of Mayors, Governors, and District Heads of Korea. The selection was made through a consensus of 14 regional co-chairpersons during a meeting held at the Korea Press Center in Seoul.

Kim will serve a two-year term, representing 228 local governments across the country. In this role, he is entitled to attend Cabinet meetings, providing a platform to communicate local issues, fiscal needs, and regional concerns directly to the central government. Key priorities for his term include addressing local extinction, securing local finances, and promoting the transfer of authority from the central government to local municipalities.
