Kim Conaty appointed director of Dartmouth’s Hood Museum

Kim Conaty, formerly the chief curator at the Whitney Museum, has been appointed as the new director of the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College. She is scheduled to begin her tenure on October 27.

Conaty succeeds John Stomberg, who retired after a decade of leadership that included overseeing a $50 million expansion of the museum's physical footprint. During her time at the Whitney, Conaty served as curator of drawings and prints before being elevated to chief curator in 2024. Her work included curating exhibitions for artists such as Edward Hopper and Ruth Asawa.

Dartmouth officials noted that Conaty’s leadership is expected to help develop the museum’s next strategic plan and continue its role as a center for scholarship and community engagement.
