Kim Davis faces new lawsuit over hidden inheritance to evade $565K judgment
Former Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis, who refused to issue marriage licenses to same‑sex couples and was ordered to pay a $565,000 federal civil‑rights judgment, is now accused of hiding inherited assets to avoid payment. Attorneys for two Kentucky men, David Ermold and David Moore, allege Davis transferred her half‑interest in property inherited from her mother to her husband, son, brother and sister‑in‑law, claiming the move was intended to prevent garnishment.
The lawsuit asserts that Davis lied under oath about the inheritance, obstructing the enforcement of the judgment that was affirmed by a federal appeals court. Despite the court order, the plaintiffs have not received any of the awarded damages, attorneys' fees or expenses.
Lawyer Michael Gartland, who has represented the plaintiffs since 2015, called the case a “slam dunk” and said the asset transfers were a clear attempt to defraud the judgment recipients.
