Kim Eui-gyeom defends Justice Minister nominee Kim Seung-won
Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Eui-gyeom has defended Ministry of Justice nominee Kim Seung-won against allegations regarding improper influence over new drug clinical trial approvals. Kim Eui-gyeom argued that the matter had already been thoroughly scrutinized by the prosecution during the administrations of Yoon Suk-yeol and Han Dong-hoon, characterizing the current scrutiny as a repetitive and intense form of verification.
Kim Eui-gyeom criticized Han Dong-hoon for releasing investigation records, accusing him of selectively editing and distorting documents to suit a political agenda. He suggested that the records might have been obtained illegally from internal prosecution files, which could constitute a breach of official secrets.
Additionally, Kim Eui-gyeom addressed allegations concerning preferential treatment involving a social cooperative run by the nominee's family. He stated that the nominee's spouse took over the institution at the request of parents of children with disabilities and that the nominee's son worked there to assist his mother, noting the modest salary received.
