Kim Gura reveals monthly YouTube earnings amid rising creator income gap

Broadcaster Kim Gura revealed during a YouTube appearance on the channel ‘GreeGura’ that his golf-themed channel, ‘Kim Gura’s Ppeokgugi Golf TV’, previously earned between 30 million and 40 million won per month during peak periods. Guest comedian Mickey Kwang-su also shared that his own YouTube earnings have exceeded 10 million won monthly, though he noted the difficulties of content creation, such as creative exhaustion and the physical toll of editing.

Data from the National Tax Service regarding one-person media creators from 2020 to 2024 highlights significant income disparity within the industry. According to data submitted by lawmaker Park Seong-hoon, the top 1% of YouTubers earned an average of approximately 1.29 billion won per person. In contrast, the bottom 50% of creators reported an average annual income of only 24.63 million won. The top 10% of creators earned an average of 333.02 million won, illustrating a widening gap in the digital content market.
