Kim Hye-kyung attends inaugural Gyeongbokgung Palace outdoor wedding
Kim Hye-kyung, the wife of President Lee Jae-myung, attended the first outdoor wedding held at Gyeongbokgung Palace on May 2. The ceremony took place at the Ginkgo Tree Shelter of the National Palace Museum of Korea.
The first couple celebrated was Estonian YouTuber Mai, known for her channel ‘Kimchi Ghost Mai,’ and her Korean husband. Mai has gained recognition for promoting Korean traditional culture, including Hanbok, to her 220,000 subscribers.
Organized by the Korea Heritage Service, the outdoor wedding initiative aims to transform national heritage sites from strictly observational spaces into venues that integrate with the daily lives of citizens. A total of 28 couples were selected from 293 applicants for this season, with ceremonies scheduled on weekends and holidays through June 8. The agency plans to expand support to 80 couples next year by dividing the program into spring and autumn sessions.
