Kim Jong Un Accuses Japan of Becoming a War State

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, speaking at a three‑day plenary of the Workers’ Party, warned that Japan is transforming into a "war state" by shedding post‑World War II restrictions on its military. He said, "Japan, a defeated country in Asia, has openly turned itself into a war state by taking the present disturbing circumstances as an opportunity to get rid of all shackles restricting its moves to become a military power." Kim also denounced the United States and South Korea for escalating military activity on the Korean Peninsula and called for a faster buildup of North Korea’s defence capabilities, emphasising nuclear technology as the foundation for future plans.

The remarks came amid heightened security dynamics in East Asia, with regional states increasing defence spending and deepening security cooperation. Kim’s speech underscores North Korea’s continuing concern over Japan’s defence posture and its own resolve to strengthen its military deterrent.
