Kim Jong Un appears in state media amid health rumors

North Korean state media, through the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), released photographs of Kim Jong Un attending the National Apparel and Footwear Exhibition-2026 in Pyongyang on Monday. Kim was accompanied by his wife and daughter during the visit, where he inspected products and praised the development of light industry as part of the '20×10' regional development program.

The official release follows widespread social media rumors and reports from international outlets, such as the British newspaper The Sun, suggesting that Kim had suffered a massive brain hemorrhage, entered a coma, and was secretly transferred to Beijing for medical treatment at the Peking Union Medical College Hospital. Some unverified claims, primarily circulated by US-based Chinese dissident Wanjun Xie on X, further alleged that Kim had died and that China had deployed 9,000 troops to Pyongyang to manage a potential succession crisis.

South Korean officials and other independent sources have stated they have no information confirming a medical emergency or the death of the leader. While the state media images provide a record of recent public activity, the authenticity of the timing has not been independently verified, and North Korean authorities have not directly addressed the health rumors.
