Kim Jong Un inspects North Korean defense industry and orders artillery modernization

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un conducted inspections of key defense industry enterprises from September 16 to 18. Accompanied by high-ranking officials, including Pak Jong Chon and Kim Yo Jong, Kim reviewed production status and emphasized the need to meet new production targets for the military industry.

A primary focus of the inspections was the comprehensive reorganization and modernization of North Korea's artillery forces. Kim stated that artillery must serve both deterrence and combat missions, possessing concentrated, destructive, and multi-faceted offensive capabilities. He asserted that these advancements in national defense would eventually render enemy military systems ineffective.

Kim issued several policy directives for the defense sector, including the integration of artificial intelligence into both offensive and defensive weapon systems, the automation and armoring of artillery, and the continuous improvement of production environments. Experts suggest the inspected facilities may be involved in the production of 600mm and 240mm multiple rocket launchers as well as advanced unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
