Kim Jong Un Inspects New Warship, Calls for Stronger Nuclear Deterrence

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited the destroyer "Kang Kon" with his daughter Kim Ju‑ae, overseeing a navigation test and stressing the need to boost the navy’s nuclear deterrent capability. The inspection was timed after state media announced that Chinese President Xi Jinping would travel to North Korea in early June.

During the tour Kim announced plans to construct a 10,000‑ton warship and said development work on submarines and stealth technologies is advancing. He reiterated the goal of integrating land, air and sea forces into a more powerful defence structure as a core element of the country’s five‑year defence plan.
