Kim Jong Un orders exponential expansion of North Korea's nuclear arsenal

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited a new nuclear material production plant, describing the facility’s output capacity as having more than doubled over the past five years. He ordered officials to further raise production to meet long‑term strategic goals, urging an “exponential” increase in both the quality and quantity of the country's nuclear arsenal.

On the same day, a key consultative meeting on strengthening nuclear forces was held, during which Kim outlined safeguards for implementing an “ambitious future plan” to boost the arsenal at “exponential speed.” KCNA quoted him saying, “This is a historic event that marks an epochal turning point in the rapid advancement of our nuclear capabilities.” Analysts noted the plant is likely the main uranium‑enrichment complex at Yongbyon and that the visit aims to strengthen Pyongyang’s bargaining position amid ongoing sanctions and diplomatic talks. Since withdrawing from the Nuclear Non‑Proliferation Treaty, North Korea has conducted six nuclear tests and dozens of ballistic‑missile trials, maintaining a nuclear stockpile estimated at several dozen warheads.
