Kim Jong Un orders fortified border defenses against South Korea

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un instructed that frontline units and border positions facing South Korea be transformed into an “impregnable fortress.” In a meeting with division and brigade commanders, he called for stronger defensive structures, the expansion of practical drills, and modernization of operational concepts to reflect modern warfare trends such as drones and electronic attacks.

South Korea’s Unification Ministry noted this was the first publicly reported meeting of its kind since Kim took power, while the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said North Korean troops have been building walls and other fortifications along the border since March. Both sides remain technically at war, as the 1950‑53 Korean War ended with an armistice rather than a peace treaty.
