Kim Jong-un orders North Korean military revolution

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has called for a “Korean-style military revolution” to transform the country's armed forces into the strongest in the world. During the Third Congress of Company Commanders held in Pyongyang on October 22 and 23, Kim instructed all army companies to become elite, self-sufficient combat units capable of independent operations.

This meeting marks the first major national military gathering since the Ninth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea in February. Kim emphasized that strengthening individual companies is the most rapid way to transform the entire military. He further directed that units must be “ideologically and spiritually purified,” technically proficient, and maintain impeccable discipline.

The directive comes amid heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula. South Korea recently proposed military talks to clarify the border and restore communication channels following an explosion in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that injured three South Korean soldiers. While Seoul attributed the incident to North Korean landmines, Pyongyang has rejected these accusations.
