Kim Kardashian discusses struggles with psoriasis and insecurity
Kim Kardashian has shared details regarding her struggle with psoriasis, a chronic autoimmune skin condition. In an interview with PEOPLE, the 45-year-old entrepreneur described how the disease has impacted both her physical comfort and her emotional well-being.
Kardashian revealed that during severe flare-ups, she utilized an uncomfortable treatment regimen involving medicated ointments and plastic wrap. She applied ointment during the day and wrapped the affected areas in Saran Wrap at night to ensure the medication remained in contact with her skin. She described the experience as feeling like a ‘crunchy Tin Man,’ noting that the plastic made noise whenever she moved or walked.
While Kardashian noted that she occasionally felt strong enough to manage the condition, she admitted to feeling ‘really insecure’ when the skin patches became larger and spread toward her face. The condition, which also affects her mother, Kris Jenner, is characterized by inflammation and scaly patches. Although there is currently no cure, various treatments such as topical steroids and injections are used to manage symptoms.
