Kim Kardashian purchased Claude Monet painting inspired by Clueless
Kim Kardashian revealed in her biography, ‘Citizen Kim’ by Jonathan Van Meter, that her first major personal art purchase was a Claude Monet painting. The acquisition was motivated by a line from the 1995 film ‘Clueless’.
In the film, a character describes someone as ‘a full-on Monet,’ meaning they look acceptable from a distance but are a mess up close. Kardashian stated that this specific reference prompted her to buy the piece at an auction in Rome around 2021. She was accompanied during the auction by Kim Jones, the former artistic director of womenswear for Fendi.
The painting, a grey landscape, was intended for her Tadao Ando-designed home in Palm Springs.
