Ghana Football Association appoints interim Black Stars technical team

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have appointed an interim technical team to lead the Black Stars for their upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Somalia. Swedish coach Kim Lars Björkegren, who currently leads the Black Queens, will serve as interim head coach. He is supported by assistant coaches Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram, with Fatawu Dauda managing the goalkeeping department.

The decision follows the departure of former head coach Carlos Queiroz after a difficult start to the qualifying campaign, which included losses to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia. The interim team is tasked with a “rescue mission” to revive Ghana’s chances in Group C while a five-member search committee continues to look for a permanent head coach.

Separately, former Black Stars captain André Ayew has addressed growing speculation regarding his potential candidacy for the GFA presidency. Ayew stated that while he has received calls from football stakeholders, his immediate priority is the reform and improvement of Ghanaian football rather than leadership transitions. He emphasized the need for better infrastructure and transparent resource management to encourage further investment in the sport.
