Kim Lien Market in Hanoi closed due to fire safety concerns
Kim Lien Market, a long-standing marketplace in Hanoi that has operated since 1992, was suspended from operations on September 14. Authorities disconnected electricity and water and installed barriers around the site at 23 Luong Dinh Cua street.
The closure follows inspections by the Hanoi Fire Prevention and Rescue Police, which identified several safety violations and deficiencies regarding fire prevention and fighting (PCCC) conditions. Following administrative penalties and official notices issued in mid-2025, the Kim Lien Ward People's Committee issued a formal notice to halt operations to rectify these safety issues.
Approximately 200 small traders were operating at the market prior to the shutdown. Local residents and vendors have requested clarification on when the market will reopen or asked for the provision of temporary market spaces to ensure their continued livelihoods.
